Yeast Infection

A yeast infection occurs when the balance of bacteria and yeast in the vagina is disrupted, allowing yeast (most commonly Candida albicans) to grow excessively. Triggers include sex, antibiotics, or hormonal changes. Symptoms often include itching and thick white discharge. While over-the-counter treatments can be effective, those with recurrent yeast infections may require prescription antifungal medications like Fluconazole. Antifungals work by treating the infection internally.
